Week 1 (7/1/2020): Introduction to Information Design & Exercise 1 (Quantifying the data)

In our first class of Information Design, we were briefed about the module according to the Module Information Booklet (MIB). Groupings were made on the spot as well.

We were introduced to our first exercise of this module according to the Google Slides attached below.

The first exercise for this module is data quantifying and visualization. We were given the chance to choose between a set of buttons/lego bricks, and create an infographic poster about it, on a piece of paper in class. However, in today's class, we merely focused on quantifying the data.

I picked the brown buttons and the picture below is how I quantified my data.

Fig. 1.1 Data quantifying

Fig. 1.1 shows how I arranged the buttons according to the number of holes, the texture of buttons, size, and tone. The arrangement was inspired by SEE's Math Method.

After placing the buttons accordingly, I counted the number of buttons for each category and listed them in a piece of paper as shown below.

Week 1 (8/1/2020): Exercise 1 (Assembling the buttons)

With the gathered information, I planned out the layout for my design by adding a legend for an easier understanding of the categories of buttons.

Then, I produced the following infographic as my final outcome for Exercise 1 today.

Week 2 (14/1/2020): Pokemon Infographic poster

As for Week 2, we are required to create a Pokemon infographic based on the L.A.T.C.H theory. In this exercise, we should first choose a generation of Pokemon, understand the region in which the generation takes place and provide a narrative to our infographic. Ms. Anis mentioned that we should include something that's significant about the generation's Pokemon in our infographic.

I decided to work on the second generation of Pokemon hence I did some research on the region where Generation 2 Pokemons are from. Based on my research, I penned down information that is relevant to my exercise. Below are some of my notes.

In Fig. 1.6 above, I wrote about how to apply the L.A.T.C.H Theory in my work as well as its narrative, which is through its generation.

In Fig. 1.7 above, I decided to settle on Generation 2, which takes place in the Johto region and has the theme of cultural traditions as it's the theme that attracts me the most.

Then, I developed a few sketches. Based on my understanding, the theme of Generation 2 Pokemon is about "Cultural Tradition", which is why traditional architecture are seen all over the place. Hence, I added a few significant buildings, such as specific towers in the Johto region in my sketches. Below are my sketches.

Week 2 (15/1/2020): Pokemon Infographic poster

The feedback I received from Ms. Anis regarding my sketches is that the game console method looks more appealing, hence I should try working towards that direction. With the feedback, I searched up for more artworks as a reference and below are some of the references I found.

Then, I created a Google Slides which encompasses my research and moodboard.

To start off with the exercise, I first illustrated the game console with the buildings to show the "L" location in the theory.

Then, I added a legend to provide more information about my infographic, such as the categories of Pokemon, as well as the name of the region.

And last but not least, detailed information of the Pokemons, to show its hierarchy of development.
