REFLECTION

Experience:
As compared to my experience in Typography class in my first semester, this semester was actually less scary as we have already got to know the lecturers and have understood their expectations on us. Speaking of expectations, it's no doubt that I feel like they have developed higher expectations on us since we have taken the Typography module. Like my experience in Typography class, there were so many times where I just feel like giving up due to frustrations, not mentioning our classes was conducted online. However, even though the majority of us were unfamiliar with ZOOM or online platforms for classes, there are pros to this learning method as well. We have learnt to adapt to the changes presented to us as this is the new norm in society. It's kind of unbelievable that this journey has finally come to an end, I really hope that my hard work, sweat, tears would pay off at the end. I am really glad that the lecturers have pushed us this far in this module.

Observation:
With online learning being conducted for this semester, I have had the opportunity to have a closer look at my friends' work, which is quite a rare opportunity. I noticed some of my friends have improved drastically and can now produce really good work which is almost on par with professionals. Even some of us are reluctant to showcase our work in public, I personally think that we can learn from each other greatly when we have the chance to share our work. Mistakes can be avoided as the lecturers would announce it the entire class. In a way, it's definitely less time-consuming in disseminating information to the class from the lecturers' point of view. I have also noticed that the lecturers started to let us make decisions on ourselves instead of relying on them for feedback. We are trained to critically analyze our work given that we have equipped ourselves with basic Typography knowledge from the first semester.

Findings:
The most significant change I see in myself is that I started to develop a designer's sensibility, maybe still far from it, but with the experience I have gained in this module, I can now evaluate my own design and even others' designs. While working on my assignments, I can now tell "what's not working" or if it's "there yet". Before this, I can't really tell if my design was good, but now, I can tell if something is going right or wrong. Furthermore, I am now not afraid to explore further instead of limiting myself. I think I have learnt to push myself further instead of having the lecturers to do so. I have also eventually developed a better understanding of Typography and am now more confident in graphic design, even though I am not specializing in it haha.
