LECTURE
Week 8 (01/06/2020)
We were briefed on our next task which is to pick 2 most suitable research method to collect data on our topic area. Below is the lecture slide.
Week 9 (08/06/2020)
No class due to public holiday.
RESEARCH IMPLEMENTATION
Week 8 (01/06/2020)
We were tasked to start brainstorming on our data collection method, which has to be at least 2 methods from either the qualitative method or quantitative method. Below is my first draft for research implementation. Since my topic is about Chinese culture and character design, I think the most suitable data collection method would be:
1. An interview with the character designers of my chosen Chinese animation
2. A questionnaire which targets the animation enthusiasts for a more critical evaluation on my topic area
Below is the first compilation of my research method as well as justification on each aspect:
Feedback:
On my schedule to interview the experts:
- "This is ideal. But as the researcher here, please anticipate that people may not respond in a timely manner. At time fail to get their participation. Do consider back up plan. Such as other experts too in case, they didn't respond. I am certain that they are not alone in this role for those animations. They must be a group of character designers involved."
On my questions for the experts:
- "I thought you plan for the Qualitative Method. This sounds a Quantitative survey question. A Likert scale question technique."
- "Do you think this is easily understood? Describe in layman term. Simplify the version to be understood. I understand but What did you mean here? You can't assume the reader to know your target answer to achieve. Please consider rephrasing this ok?"
- "Be descriptive here. Which character/s you meant. Be specific in this context for the research instrument's sake."
On my questionnaire:
- On my question about age group: "too big / or huge here. I suggest adding another or two more variables: 31 - 40, 41 -50, 51 and above"
- On my question about frequency of watching animation: "Do you think placed a few times - you can quantify easily? Perhaps place ranges? Just a view but depend to what extent you want to know ok."
Second draft:
Final draft for Research Implementation:
After another round of amendments, I came up with my final draft for research implementation, which is shown as below:
