INSTRUCTIONS


In this module, we will be learning about the art direction of games and will be tasked to refine it with a more enhanced version.

Below are the lecture slides shown in class.

After understanding about Art Direction, we proceed to learn about our assignment for this module, which is to redesign the art direction for a well-known mobile game named Among Us.


GOOD AND BAD ART DIRECTION

Before beginning to redesign, we first need to observe the art direction of Among Us and list down the pros and cons for 3 categories: Character Design, Environment Design, and UI/UX Design. Below are our findings on Good and Bad Art Direction for Among Us.


Feedback: Ms. Anis said that our work is quite thorough and well-thought. We can proceed to brainstorm how to improve the cons in Among Us' new art direction.


AMONG US NEW PROPOSAL

Then, we worked on the new art direction for Among Us. Below is our new proposal for the art direction of this game.


Feedback: Ms. Anis commented that she looks forward to seeing our final outcome.


PROGRESSION

I am assigned to work on the UI/UX of our new art direction. To begin with, I listed down the items I would like to refine and proceed to find references for them.

Below is a list of items I need to work on:

These are some of my initial brainstorming work, which my teammates and I are quite agreeable with. 
The typeface used is Ethnocentric, which as slanted cuts across the typeface, and has a strong outer space vibe which we are going for. 




Brand Identity
Below is the finalized brand identity for Among Us' new art direction.

I also created a mockup for the mascot logo.



Icons and Buttons
Below is the finalized brand identity for Among Us' new art direction. I also recreated the icons and buttons.

The title screen undergoes minor adjustments for a simpler and more minimalistic layout.

Lobby
We also work on creating the lobby to showcase a combination of all 3 categories of items: character design, environment design, and UI/UX design.


Character Customization
With cyberpunk as one of our themes, we customized our character customization to suit the theme by adding categories like stickers and paints.


In-game Interfaces
Combining the characters and environment designs, I was tasked to place the icons and buttons and text accordingly to create the surface.







Guide Map
I reduced the opacity for the background to make the map stand out better.


Chatting and Voting
In the first attempt, I tried to combine both chatting and voting room together. However I don't think it's working hence, hence I decided to stick with the original layout.

Below is our final compilation for the new art direction for Among Us.



Reflection: Redesigning the art direction for a new Among Us was very fun. I learnt to pay more attention to details when designing it. Although I am not a UI/UX designer, it was challenging fun to work there. Big thank you to Ms Anis for being so encouraging of our process and final outcome.
