REFLECTION

Experience
If I were given a word to describe my Typography class experience, it would be a roller-coaster ride. Like a roller-coaster ride, there were so many ups and downs I have experienced in this class, which have made a huge impact on shaping who I am today. With the "good work, keep it up" I received, I have learnt to be consistent with my work quality and never slack off; with the "revise" and "not quite there" I received, I have learnt to persist till I managed to come up with good quality work. And not to mention about the e-portfolio. The process of creating and trying to perfect the e-portfolio has made me into a more meticulous person as one has to have a keen eye on detail while blogging. This class did not merely open my doors to learning about something new - giving me a whole new perspective about what Typography is about, it also has shaped me into a person who always strives for better, as a student, and as a person.

Observation
After studying this module for a semester, I am now more observant and aware of Typography all around me, be it on campus or at home. When I am strolling around the campus, I would start to pay more attention to the typeface used in the design and even discuss it with my friends about it. I can still recall back many moments after school, where I started noticing about the layout design used to create flyers on my hostel's notice board, the typeface of Apple Fox while I was drinking it, and even would stare at the typefaces used for the toiletries while brushing my teeth. Before learning about Typography, I wouldn't even have cared about all of these. But now, I have observed the changes in me, as learning Typography has taught me to be more appreciative, analytical about designs and no designs should be taken for granted.

Findings
Creating a good design is much more effort-consuming than I thought. This is because the process of coming up with a good design requires much thought and consideration and might even be painstakingly laborious, especially for rookie designers like us. But now with a better understanding of Typography, I find myself being more able to convey my thoughts and concept through type. This is evident when I learnt about type expression, which happened to be my favourite exercise among all. Aside from that, I find that speaking to people while I am at the bottleneck of coming up with inspirations is indeed very helpful. Sometimes inspirations come when we least expect them. Lastly, I find myself growing so much as compared to who I was when I first entered this class, all thanks to the constant support given from Mr. Vinod, Mr. Shamsul and my classmates, who have changed me for the better.
